sound:frame festival catalogue 2009

„The technical evolution is advancing at a rapid pace and with it new forms of visualizing electronic music have developed and still will develop. The evolution is taking several directions. On the one hand soft-and hardware provide improved possibilities to synchronize and connect sound and images. On the other hang projection technologies are being developed that include space more and more, such as the VideoMovingSystem or holographic systems. With these succesive advances in technology, more diverse possibilities and platforms for visualists are being developed. Clubs can afford to install beamers and the VJ has easier access to soft-and hardware. To a great extent, VJs remain idealists who work through days and nights for their cause, write new software and improve technologies and techniques, spend their savings on new, even more refined hardware and perform live for a miniscule fee for nights on end. There is no tipical training on how to become a VJ. Visualists come from a wide range of areas, like photography, design, film and of course also from music. Through its diversity of skills and the international exchange, the scene can draw from a wealth creative potential. The VJ community networks are more and more by the day, exchanges experiences, knowledge and ideas and meanwhile meets on a weekly basis at audio-visual festivals in various cities around the world.”
